Latest council news: Free parking at Woking Park, Surrey rail plan, primary school places

Three hours free parking at Woking Park
New parking arrangements and charges introduced at Woking Park take effect from Monday 1 December 2014. Drivers are advised that:

    • You can park all week, including weekdays, for up to three hours completely free.
    • If you wish to park longer than three hours, you will need to use the Pay & Display machine before leaving your car.
    • Parking arrangements will be enforced 24-hours-a-day, seven-days-a-week.

Earlier this year, a new single-storey 261 bay car park at the rear of Woking Leisure Centre was opened providing additional parking capacity. In an innovative approach to maximise space, four 3G seven-a-side sports pitches were installed above the new car park.

Surrey’s new rail plan
Surrey’s rail strategy can be found on the county council website. It sets out how:

    • Rail improvements will promote economic growth and create jobs
    • Overcrowding can be tackled
    • Rail investment benefits Surrey
    • Surrey’s railways will be affected by increases in housing, employment and population growth.

The Network Rail proposals include work at Waterloo to allow all ‘main suburban’ peak trains to run at 10-car instead of current 8-car lengths, improvement of ‘on station’ capacity for passengers at Waterloo, Vauxhall and a number of other suburban stations and additional rolling stock to strengthen Main Line trains from Woking and further out that currently do not operate at their potential maximum length.
If you want to have your say on the proposals, available at improving rail services, email WessexRouteStudy@networkrail.co.uk
All feedback must be received by 18 February 2015 when the public consultation period closes.

Apply now for 2015 primary school places
If you are a parent of a child who is due to start primary school in September 2015, you have until 15 January 2015 to apply for a school place. So, before the festive season gets under swing, why not tick applying for a school place off your list of things to do.
The quickest and easiest way to apply is by using the online schools admissions system which is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The outcome of your application will be sent out by email. If you miss the deadline you will reduce your chances of getting one of your preferred schools. For more information and an online application form visit surreycc.gov.uk/admissions.
