A 15th anniversary concert by the King’s Men, choral Scholars of King’s College Cambridge, held at St Andrew’s Church, Goldsworth Park, raised £4,000 for the Woking and Sam Beare hospices.

Organised by Mike and Rosie Lipscomb, in conjunction with Wendy Denty, community fundraiser for the hospices, the sell-out concert was followed by a repeat performance at Pirbright where a further £3,000 was raised.

Mike and Rosie have been organising the concerts in aid of the hospices for all of the 15 years – “a magnificent effort” says Wendy Denty. The fund raising was helped this year by sponsorship from the Runnymede Hospital. “And we shall be looking for more sponsors in the future” said Mike.

The King’s Men functions separately from the main Choir of King’s College, Cambridge, world famous for its annual TV and radio broadcasts of “Carols from Kings. It is run entirely by its members and performs regularly around Britain, and has performed as far afield as North America, Australia and Hong Kong. The concert at St. Andrew’s was a varied and highly entertaining programme of unaccompanied sacred music, madrigals, spirituals, folk and pop songs, and organ music.
