Fly-tippers swatted
A roofing business from Middlesex is counting the cost of fly-tipping after being caught on camera illegally dumping waste building materials at Parley Drive Recycling Centre, Woking. The company pleaded guilty to two charges of fly-tipping and was ordered to pay a total of £3,060.04. Fly-tipping is an on-going problem particularly at Woking’s household waste recycling sites. Commercial traders feel they can abuse these sites, avoiding trade waste disposal costs.

Fuel too expensive?
Vulnerable householders in Woking can find out how to save money on their energy bills this winter, thanks to support from Surrey Community Action and Action Surrey. Advice sessions will take place with vulnerable consumers, such as those of retirement age, families with young children and people with a long-term illness. Surrey Community Action will encourage people to bring along their energy bills to ensure that tariffs and payment methods are providing the best value. Further information about Surrey Community Action can be found at www.surreyca.org.uk

Best connections
Surrey became the best-connected county in the UK with the recent installation of the 500th fibre broadband cabinet. More than 75,000 businesses and homes that would otherwise have missed out on the opportunity to get better broadband are now covered by the high-speed technology.
