Our recycle bring sites are changing

posted in: Uncategorized | 0

The introduction of mixed kerbside recycling has significantly improved recycling rates across the borough. Residents now recycle around 60% of what they throw away. With more recyclables going into our blue-lidded bins at home, our use of community collection facilities or ‘bring sites’ is changing.

In a move that will save local tax payers £90,000 per year, paper and glass banks are being replaced with banks to collect recyclable items, which at present, can not be recycled at home. Items such as juice cartons, lightbulbs, books, CDs and DVDs.

Three collection facilities, Kestrel Way in Goldsworth Park Industrial Estate, as well as The Olive Tree in Sutton Green and High Road in Byfleet and will close altogether from the 30 November 2015. However, if enthusiastic recyclers can’t fit all their recyclables into one bin they can request an additional blue-lidded bin, free of charge.

In a bid to reduce fly-tipping at bring sites, the Council will continue prosecute individuals who misuse the borough’s recycling facilities by dumping large household items or bags of household waste on site. Not only does this prevent other residents from being able to use the sites to recycle their items, it also directly impacts the charities who are responsible for the collection banks and the cost of clearing the sites.
