Goldsworth Park gardeners win awards

Goldsworth Park gardeners and growers were among the winners at the annual Woking in Bloom and Allotment Awards, held at H.G Wells Conference and Events Centre.

The cream of the gardening crop received their prizes at a special presentation evening, attended by the Mayor of Woking, Cllr Derek McCrum. Prizes for the winners and runners-up included garden centre gift tokens and trophies.

Goldsworth Park winners included Michael Bliganut, who took second place in the best front garden class, sponsored by Squires Garden Centre.

Brockhill Sheltered Housing Scheme   was third in the best-kept community (shared) garden category. The Special award for best new entrant, sponsored by Squires Garden Centre, was Neil Baldwin.

In the Tunis Cup for best allotment site in Woking Borough the Goldsworth Park Allotment Association took third place, whilst in second for the Benstead Scroll for best cultivated plot by someone over 70 years old, was Mr J Arkinstall, and third in the same category was Mr R Clare, also of Goldsworth Park Allotments.

In the Leam Challenge Shield for best newly cultivated plot, Ms C Lawrance, Goldsworth Park Allotments, was Joint 2nd.
